WIESENER STUDIOS-Father/Daughter Makers

Fred Wiesener lives and works overlooking the Ohio River in historic Maysville, Kentucky.  Fred has been producing one of a kind ceramic clay sculptures since the mid 60's, is collected internationally and continues to exhibit all over the United States.  He was a recipient of the prestigious Niche Award given to outstanding craftspeople in their field and has won numerous "best of show" awards for his ceramic "ladies."  Fred has dedicated his entire adult life to designing and creating elegant forms in clay inspired by the clean lines and muted color palettes of the 1920's. Fred's daughter Catherine Wiesener lives and maintains a small studio in the country near Champaign, Illinois where she teaches art at the University.  She exhibits nationally and is the recipient of numerous awards for her delicate porcelain work. She has been making sculpture since the mid 90's.  She always has more than one project ongoing that include sculptural objects, functional ceramics, designing and creating handmade art tile and fabricating wood cabinets and furniture.

Fred and Catherine collaborate through scale drawings mailed back and forth until a consensus is reached regarding design and then executed independently and assembled collaboratively.  It's always a surprise.
